The History of The Church

Updated: Jul 24, 2018

Our Story Begins...

With the healing miracle of Elder Norman Morrison. He suffered from a serious stroke with doctors not giving much hope for his recovery. But we serve a miracle working God! Elder Morrison had a complete healing! During his recovery, the Lord spoke to Elder Morrison and placed a vision and desire in his heart to open a church in Harford County. Elder Morrison is the founder and builder of the original church, The Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.

The Church Starts to Grow...

In 1958, Elder Morrison, his wife Nora, and Paul Clutter began to meet and pray twice a week for an outpouring of the Holy Ghost. Their prayers were answered, when in 1960, seven more people were baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. This was the beginning of a move of the Spirit that was confirmed with signs following, as in Mark 16:17. As the years passed, Reverend Charlie Stetler and Reverend Rex Pritt, both served as Pastors of our local church. God began to bring souls to the church and there was a true outpouring of the Holy Ghost. Since that time, Elder Morrison, Rev. Charlie Stetler, and Rev. Rex Pritt have gone to be with the Lord.

New Pastors Arrive...

In May 2012, Rev. Walter Donnelly, his wife Michele, and their ten children moved from Florida to become our Senior Pastors. Sister Michele Donnelly is the granddaughter of Elder Morrison and grew up here in our local church. Both Pastor Walter and Michele graduated from Blue Ridge Bible College with Degrees in Theology and were later married in our sanctuary.

A New Beginning For The Church...

Since Pastor Walter and Michele's arrival, the church family prayerfully chose to change the name of our local assembly to Strong Tower Church. We continue to honor our rich heritage in the Lord as we pursue His presence.

The Lord Spoke to Our Pastors...

Shortly after arriving at Strong Tower Church, the Lord put it on Pastor Walter and Michele's hearts to start a food bank. Thus, began the Bread of Life Food Bank. The food bank started with one goal in mind, serving the community and spreading the love of Jesus Christ. Over 200 families came to the first food give away! It was apparent that there is a huge need in Harford County for food assistance programs. We are still doing our best to serve the community.

A Christian Schooling Experience...

Founded in 2012 by Michele Donnelly, Homegrown Christian Homeschool Co-Op in Forest Hill, Maryland, provides a weekly educational gathering spot for dozens of families from Harford, Cecil, and Baltimore Counties and Baltimore City. Homegrown Christian Homeschool Co-Op also offers educational and enrichment classes for preschool through high school students, taught by co-op members. The co-op meet on Friday mornings at Strong Tower Church. Members must agree with our Statement of Faith and agree to follow the Code of Conduct. We Value Worship...

Pastor Walter's mission for 2017 and 2018 was to focus on worship. After a few months of preparation, the first Strong Tower Church band was formed. Lead by Walter's daughter Kyrsten, the worship band began their journey to glorify God through worship. The band does their best to play a mixture of older and newer, contemporary style songs to accommodate the changing times while keeping in touch with their roots.

"We are committed to preparing a habitation for the presence of God. We do not come to any service that we are not in full expectation to encounter a real and living God through honoring and glorifying Him in worship." - Kyrsten Donnelly, Worship Director, Strong Tower Church

Daily Prayer...

Strong Tower Church believes in the power of prayer. Pastor Walter challenged the congregation to pray daily as a church. As a way to keep the congregation in touch with each other and with God, the Strong Tower Church Daily Prayer began. The daily prayer is sent out every weekday morning via email and also posted on the daily prayer page. Each prayer has a verse that correlates with the prayer as a way to not only get us to read the bible more but to give us a basis for the prayer.
